Landslip Remediation

In December 2011, a three day storm caused thousands of landslips in the region and a State of Emergency was declared.

Acting for Civil Defence, NCE managed a team of five for eight consecutive days assessing land and structural damage in regards to public safety.

After the event NCE completed 25 landslip remediation projects. Pictured below is an example of a significant landslip at 173 to 177 Haven Road, which damaged one and threatened two other businesses.

Three systems were utilised to stabilise the active slip, including large temporary ground anchors to allow installation of a subsoil drainage system and a massive reinforced soil buttress using the Maccaferri Terramesh Green retaining system.

To the left of the active slip, a soil nail wall revetment was designed and constructed with tinted shotcrete facing to mitigate rock fall risk to the work area below. More recently, the headscarp situated on the neighbouring land was stabilised using a formed ‘concrete canvas” cut-off drain to control stormwater along with an anchored and planted MatMacR facing. NCE continues to provide cost effective advice and design solutions for landslips affecting valuable property and infrastructure.
